THE MOVIE

just me, is about a guy who, alone in the dead of night, cannot tell whether he is awake or dreaming. What he must confront is something he cannot avoid in either state.

“Stark, noirish lighting, an excellent, dissonant background score, and intensifying camera movements will make lovers of suspense feel right at home”

– Ben Turney, FilmInACup.com

 THE MAKING

just me was our first attempt at filmmaking. It was the first time we held a film camera in our hands. We used a spring-wound Bolex Rex - the camera rolls for about 25 seconds when fully wound. We could see it was one antiquated piece of equipment; but we were in denial – it was the best gadget we had ever touched and the whirring sound of the camera was pure music. We couldn’t wait to make our mark in the annals of motion picture history!

In the middle of one night, we came up with a story idea that would require very little money, equipment and outside professional help. Luckily we found a film student, Anil Asrani, who agreed to help us with the lighting for our shoot. Of course we convinced him to do more than just that - he ended up in front of the camera – first time for him too as an actor! We shot the film over two weekends. And it took us two months to edit the movie on video. Then, again, we got lucky and found this composer, Mikhail Shtangrud, who agreed to score music for our film.

Thus, finally, after a couple of months of effort, we had in our hands, our first film - just me.
