VIEWER REVIEWS (Detailed Reviews)

(Some viewer responses from Film Festivals & Film Previews)

A gentle, humorous and often wry look at the lives of expatriate Indians, Shaadi.com is a welcome addition to the Indian Diaspora film genre. The film's strength lies in the fact that the directors choose to observe rather than comment, often to extremely humorous effect.

This debut feature is a labour of love for the directors. Besides writing and directing, the pair have also shot, edited, recorded sound and even acted in this witty and honest film.

- Commonwealth Film Festival

The material definitely touched the audience as laughter and sighs of recognition were obvious to observe. I found myself laughing along with everyone else and rooting supportively for these two young filmmakers to continue to realize their dreams.

- Jeffrey Barrett, Masala.com

Raj Nidimoru, first time director was welcomed to Canada for their experimental digital feature, [shaadi.com]*, and received a standing ovation for their work.

- Bala Menon, The Weekly Voice

[shaadi.com]* is a sweet, funny and a very relevant film

Festival Projects going Bollywood: South Asian film gala promises to defy formula

- Christian Cotroneo, Toronto Star

".. a well-received and warm comedy..."

".. a fresh, funny look at the quirkier side of the Indian expatriate success story.."

"A truly wonderful moment" (the climax), "the scene hints at the enormous warmth and sensitivity of the directors, quite apart from their skill at tugging on the heartstrings after an hour of relentless comedy".

"...certainly the best surprise flick at the Festival."
- Rahul Sagar, tehelka.com

Lots of compliments on the slick editing... and the smart dialogues. The elevator scene at the end was definitely a highlight. They didn't even get up when the titles came on... and they just l-o-v-e-d it.

[shaadi.com]*' is an amusing romantic comedy.. well scripted, cool editing, real performances, natural dialogues, something we all desis can relate to... Finally, a film that has a realistic portrayal of single desis in USA.

"Wow" was our reaction throughout the movie! A very entertaining film that was well conceived frame by frame. A very artistic rendition.

The movie gets funnier by the number of times it is viewed, with not a dull minute to kill.

What's new and interesting is that all the characters are non-actors and what is most amazing is how well all those non-professionals performed. A big hand to DK and Raj.
- Vinod V Nair

The movie's ending was the best. I can't think of any better ending than this and I'm confident that no other ending could have made such a nice impression on this movie.

- Sai

Although first timers for so many technical aspects of the movie, the result is awesome! DK and Rajesh should be very proud of this.
